Homework
Homework for the week is sent home on Mondays. The weekly spelling list is included in the homework packet. Each student is expected to read for at least 20 minutes, practice math facts for at least 5 minutes, and practice his or her spelling words. The homework in bold can be moved to be completed any night of the week. All homework (including spelling journal) needs to be turned in every Friday.
Spelling
-Our spelling instruction is developed using Words Their Way.
-Students are given a Spelling Inventory at the beginning, middle and end of the year to see where they are developmentally as spellers. This helps me know which spelling list is most appropriate for each student.
-The focus is to learn spelling patterns and to be able to apply the patter to other words. It should not be about memorization.
