Progress Reports

Progress reports went home in Friday Folders today - please sign and return them on Monday.

Thank you to everyone who made it to the Patriotic Sing-Along, I'm sure you know how much your child loved seeing you there!

We started a Texas Symbols project this week. All students were given the following rules for their completed project:

Then they got creative! Every student will complete a project of their choice - some have decided to make a flipbook, some are creating brochures, and some are making books. It is fun to see them getting a little creative with how they are presenting the information, while still writing things they must have. I can't wait to see how they turn out!

A Few Reminders:
Please send a snack with your child every day. If you would like to send in some extra snacks for those who do forget, you are welcome to bring individually packaged snacks in the morning. Just let me know if you would like to do that!

We are in need of cereal boxes for an upcoming project! Please send in a box or two with your child (in case some students forget!) by October 3rd - thanks so much for your help!

Have a SAFE and happy weekend!

Open House and Upcoming Events

Thank you to everyone for coming out to Open House last night! I know how much your child l-o-v-e-d showing off their work to you. They were SO excited to be celebrities for the evening!

Your second grade celebs did a great job showing off their personalities and dreams of the future - I wish I could see them all as adults because these kids have got some BIG plans!

 Guess Who?

 When I Grow Up...

Our room and slideshow - ready for some celebs!

Thanks for completing the scavenger hunt - I hope you enjoyed your snack!

I will be checking to see whose guess was the closest! The winner will get to take home our jar of Tootsie Rolls!

It was announced yesterday morning that our class was the winner of the RIF Book Challenge for 2nd grade! Each class created a book to go along with the theme "Take a Trip with RIF!" We decided to create a book titled Where Would You Go that showed everyone where we could travel with our favorite book characters! I am so proud of the work everyone put into this book and I know they were all so excited that our book was chosen! Here is a peek at our class book:

Please make sure you signed up for a conference in October - if you forgot, email me so we can set one up! I have so much to tell you about our first month of 2nd grade and what to expect for the rest of the year :)

Patriotic Sing-a-long is Friday! Don't forget to wear red, white, and blue to show some American pride! It will be held at 8:30am in the cafeteria; I hope to see you there!

What We've Been Up To!

It's been a while since I updated our sweet little blog, but I hope you will continue to check in on us to see what we're up to! Here is a peek at what we've been working on the past few weeks!

You may remember that you sent pictures for your child to decorate their Writer's Notebook with, so I thought it was about time to show you how great they look! These notebooks will definitely help them choose ideas to write about!

In reading, we have been learning about nonfiction features and becoming a "specialist." We will soon begin writing our own books by asking ourselves what we could be specialists of.

In math, we have been working on creating hundreds chart and completing number lines by skip counting by 1's, 2's, 5's and 10's. This week, we started number of the day by creating a foldable in our math journals - they all turned out great! We are going to get lots of practice writing numbers in different forms.

September 17th was Constitution Day, so we spent some time reading We the Kids and talking about why it is so important for our country to have a Constitution. We discussed that even though every class in our school doesn't have the same exact rules, we all have to follow the Valley Oaks rules. This works for America, too - even if every state has different laws, we all have to follow the laws set by the Constitution. After discussing the Constitution we took a little time to talk about how we show our love for America every day - by saying the pledge! We then split into groups and created representations of the american flag using the words to the Preamble or the words to the Pledge of Allegiance.

In science we are discussing temperature, and states of matter! We will be doing some fun experiments!
