What We've Been Up To!

It's been a while since I updated our sweet little blog, but I hope you will continue to check in on us to see what we're up to! Here is a peek at what we've been working on the past few weeks!

You may remember that you sent pictures for your child to decorate their Writer's Notebook with, so I thought it was about time to show you how great they look! These notebooks will definitely help them choose ideas to write about!

In reading, we have been learning about nonfiction features and becoming a "specialist." We will soon begin writing our own books by asking ourselves what we could be specialists of.

In math, we have been working on creating hundreds chart and completing number lines by skip counting by 1's, 2's, 5's and 10's. This week, we started number of the day by creating a foldable in our math journals - they all turned out great! We are going to get lots of practice writing numbers in different forms.

September 17th was Constitution Day, so we spent some time reading We the Kids and talking about why it is so important for our country to have a Constitution. We discussed that even though every class in our school doesn't have the same exact rules, we all have to follow the Valley Oaks rules. This works for America, too - even if every state has different laws, we all have to follow the laws set by the Constitution. After discussing the Constitution we took a little time to talk about how we show our love for America every day - by saying the pledge! We then split into groups and created representations of the american flag using the words to the Preamble or the words to the Pledge of Allegiance.

In science we are discussing temperature, and states of matter! We will be doing some fun experiments!
